Akwasidae Cultural Festival

Event description: An important milestone was reached in August 2024 when Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, hosted the Akwasidae celebration in London as part of his 25th anniversary on the Golden Stool. The ceremony took place in the Middle Temple Garden and drew thousands of attendees. Former President John Agyekum Kufuor and Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Papa Owusu Ankomah, were among the dignitaries present. Through traditional drumming, dancing, and the wearing of colourful Kente robes, the festival showcased vivid Asante culture and the rich heritage of the Ashanti Kingdom, Ghana, Africa and the world as whole.

In an open, welcoming environment, Akwasidae in the Park UK is a lively celebration of Ashanti tradition. What makes it unique is this:

• Cultural Richness: The celebration, which is customarily observed in Ghana, pays tribute to the Ashanti Kingdom’s enduring legacy and ancestors. It provides a vibrant fusion of ancient customs with a contemporary twist in the UK.

• Royal Presence: The celebration, which is hosted by Ashanti King His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, reunites the diaspora with their heritage. His presence gives the rich cultural legacy honoured during Akwasidae an air of authenticity and respect.

• Vibrant Atmosphere: Usually held in a park, such as London’s Middle Temple Garden, the celebration is distinguished by upbeat drumming, dancing, and vibrant Kente cloth displays. As a result, everyone may experience and embrace their cultural identity in a warm and joyous setting, especially the younger generation.

• Community and togetherness: By bringing together individuals of all ages, the festival offers a forum for education, cultural exchange, and togetherness inside and outside of the Ghanaian community. Young people get the opportunity to see the celebration of their customs and develop a strong bond with their ancestry.

In essence, Akwasidae in the Park UK with the youth to promote Dementia awareness is more than just a festival it’s an immersive cultural experience that bridges generations, celebrates the enduring legacy of the Ashanti Kingdom, and inspires pride in the heritage of the youth in the whole and beyond.
